  1. I'm guessing cottage cheese is used instead of ricotta because it has more moisture, which the noodles will soak up as they cook. I'm going to give this a try but also mix in some ricotta for the flavor. Wish me luck!

  2. Can you substitute out the cottage cheese with ricotta or ricotta/mozzarella mix?

    Matthew T.

  3. I am wondering why not one person has said he or she used a crock pot liner in their crock pot before making this recipe. Even Derf2440 does not. So easy to use and your crock pot stays clean as a whistle. Maybe you wouldn't even need to add the water or wine with the dish to keep everything moist...

  4. I substitute the cottage cheese with Ricotta. When in the steps do I put in the Ricotta cheese?

  1. Just a warning. Don't try to rush this recipe by setting the crock pot on high. I did that and the edges burned and left a burn flavor throughout. I know it would have been yummy otherwise. Also, next time I'm going to try replacing half the ground beef with spiced sausage to give it a kick.

  2. This was just toooooo easy!! And it was VERY good!! I put this in my crock pot (I have an oblong sized model) and some Italian Parmesan Bread in my bread machine and I went to work. When I came home, my whole house smelled wonderful!! Thanks Dorothy!!

  3. Absolutely incredible! This was so delicious and easy. Mine was done after only 4 hours. I then turned the crockpot to the warm setting so it wouldn't be overcooked. I think this will become a regular in my house!

  4. I added cheddar cheese the 2nd time I made it and it was delicious. You do have to watch closely so it does not overcook.

  5. This smelled so good while cooking....just about drove me mad waiting for it! Unfortunately, it burned and it was only in there for five hours. (BUT I think that's just my crockpot). Still what we managed to salvage was just fabulous. I added some basil and parsley and it was wonderful!!! Definite keeper. It's so much less time-consuming and less messy than my lasagna...and still as good. Thanks!

  1. Substituted sausage, used a variety of high quality cheeses, added mushrooms and spinach.

  2. This turned out surprisingly well. Great flavor and very easy to make. I substituted crashed tomatoes for some of the tomato sauce in order to give it some more texture, and that worked fine. I am wondering if it would cook faster if I used the "oven ready" pasta instead of the regular kind ... may try that ... but overall this is a keeper

  3. Very good, but slightly salty for my taste. I will cut the salt down to 1 tsp next time.

  4. We made this for our second time for last night's dinner and had leftovers tonight. This is what lasagna is meant to taste like, and it's so easy. Unbelievable!Since we prefer ricotta in lasagna, I used 12 ounces of whole milk ricotta instead of the cottage cheese. Other than that, made as instructed. Hey, you! If you haven't made this yet, what the heck are you waiting for??

    thatbobbiegirl

  5. I rubbed the inside of the slow cooker with olive oil. I reduced the salt a little. I poured a half cup of red wine around the edge before cooking. It cooked for 4.5 hours on low.
