MANILA, Philippines — Face-to-face class suspensions and adjustments to modes of learning will be implemented this week in various cities and provinces nationwide due to sweltering weather.
The following local government units and school administrators have issued separate directives to implement class suspensions and changes to their conduct of in-person classes:

Caloocan City:
– Daycare (April 8–12): Center-based program in an alternative venue
– Kinder to Senior High School (Morning classes):
– Face-to-face classes from 6 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (April 8 to 9);
– Asynchronous (April 10 to 11);
– Face-to-face classes from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. (April 12).

– Asynchronous (April 8 to 9);
– Face-to-face classes from 6 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (April 10 to 11);
– Face-to-face classes from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. (April 12).
– University of Caloocan City (April 8 to 12)
– Online Classes for College of Education, Liberal Arts, Criminology, Business and Accountancy, Graduate School.
– Face-to-face classes for the College of Law, all on-the-job training (for all courses), and on-campus extracurricular activities.
Makati City:
– Shortened face-to-face class schedule (April 8)
– Morning shifts: 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.
– Afternoon shifts: 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Marikina City:
– Face-to-face classes at all levels, private and public suspended; shift to asynchronous learning (April 8).
Universidad de Manila:
– Classes will be done online (April 8)

Luzon
Basista, Pangasinan:
– Face-to-face classes suspended; modular distance learning is to be implemented for daycare to senior high school (April 8).
Bulacan:
– Shift to online classes (April 8).
Visayas
Bohol Island State University:
– Suspension of all face-to-face classes (from April 8 until further notice)
Cebu:
– All classes suspended (from April 8 until further notice).
Cebu Normal University:
– Conduct of classes will be online (April 8–12).
Negros Oriental:
– Face-to-face classes at all levels in public and private schools are suspended (from April 8 until further notice).

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), nine areas nationwide are forecast to experience “danger” level heat indices from 42 degrees Celsius to 51 degrees Celsius on Monday, April 8.
It said that Daet in Camarines Norte is expected to reach a heat index of up to 46 degrees Celsius; Cotabato City in Maguindanao, 44 degrees Celsius; and Aparri in Cagayan, 43 degrees Celsius.
Other areas likely to experience heat index within the danger level of 42 degrees Celsius include Tuguegarao City in Cagayan, San Jose in Occidental Mindoro, Puerto Princesa City in Palawan, Aborlan in Palawan, CBSUA-Pili in Camarines Sur, and Roxas City in Capiz.

State meteorologists define heat index as “a human discomfort index that gives the apparent temperature on what humans perceive or feel as the temperature (from the surroundings) affecting the body.”
